2019 Honorary Doctorate

Pat Reser is a 1960 graduate and long time supporter of Oregon State University including her most recent service as chair of the university’s inaugural board of trustees from 2014 to 2017. She also received a Masters degree in Education from Portland State University and enjoyed a successful career as an educator.

Pat is currently the board chair of Reser’s Fine Foods, Inc., a family owned company producing freshly made refrigerated foods, and is the founder of the non-profit Reser Family Foundation that makes charitable contributions to transform people and places across the state of Oregon.

Pat, along with her late husband Al, contributed to many university initiatives including renovation of Reser Stadium, construction of the Linus Pauling Science Center and Austin Hall, the home of Oregon State’s College of Business, and establishment of endowed professor positions in music and chemistry. Pat also served as co-chair of the $1.142 billion Campaign for OSU and was a member of the OSU foundation board of trustees for more than 12 years.

Pat is a passionate supporter of the arts and numerous humanitarian endeavors. She believes artistic experiences can broaden the lenses through which we view the world. In addition to her effort to bring a word class Center for the Arts to Beaverton, which will break ground in the fall, she chairs the Beaverton Arts Foundation and serves on the Washington County Museum Board of Stewards. As a trustee for Medical Teams International, Pat has volunteered among some of the world’s most vulnerable populations in Uganda, Lebanon, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Guatemala.

Pat is the proud mother of five children and is championing the growth of fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.   She encourages them to share her sense of curiosity about the world, life-long learning and a desire to serve others. Pat is married to Bill Westphal and they reside in Beaverton.
